If we pretty much threw up some FAQ info on our character's animal forms? With such a variety it can be pretty hard to know the specifics of what you're RPing with. And lets face it, no one wants to spend an hour looking things up which they could pretty much get from one thread /o/

CLOUDED LEOPARD/ your neighbourhood ninja feline

Basic info

- The largest canine teeth (proportionate to body size) of any wild cat (about 2 inches, an inch shorter than the tiger... which is ten times bigger )(there's a lot of variation in the supposed size of tiger canines, though the usual is about 3 inches give or take a few on either side of the scale)
- They are the best tree-climbing feline, with flexible ankle joints and keen claws allowing it to run down tree trunks head first. It can run along the underside of branches and hang by the back feet alone
- 33 and 51 lb in weight (Artie would be about... 39lbs)
- Shoulder height of 25 to 40 centimetres (31 centimetres for him o/)
- Considered a big cat due to the head shape, even though its size is more compatible to smaller cats
- Can't roar like other big cats
- Can purr like small cats, meaning they purr whilst breathing both in and out (instead of other big cats which only purr on the out breath, and even then it's more of a chuffing sound)
- Built for trees, and is thus rather clumsy on the ground due to the stocky build with large paws
- Like water
- They attack MOSTLY (not always) by dropping out of the tree onto their prey's back and delivering a fatal blow to the back of the neck... AS I SAID, NINJA CAT

Body Language basics

- Tail lashing/"wagging"= PISSED KITTY
- Yowling= Hurt/pissed/general show of discontent
- Purring= Happy
- Slinking low= GONNA HUNT YOUR ASS
- Hissing= Scared/Pissed/angry
- Tail twitching= Playful/content
- Raising hackles (looking really bloody puffy XD)= scared/angry/ready for a fight
- Ears back= Unhappy
- Ears back whilst crouched low= submissive/scared


IF PEOPLE WANT ME TO HELP WITH BODY LANGUAGE THEN SAY I've roleplayed animals before, and still do on occasion. I'm best with FELINES and CANINES. I may struggle with anything else, but I usually at least have the basics /o/

The Basics :
Species : Kermode Bear.

[/i] Please, do not call Matt a polar bear. He’d probably prefer to be an over-sized Polar instead of a Kermode, but I chose Kermode for a reason.[/ul]
Lifespan : 20 to 25 years in the wild. Obviously, Mattie will live much longer.
Weight : The average male weighs in at 250 to 300 pounds. Matt weighs in close to the 270-275 range because he is not a fully grown adult male yet.
Length : 5 to 6 feet. In this case, he’s about 5’8” to match his human height.
Speed : Maximum speed is 55 km/hr – Roughly 34 mph.
Strength : Been known to flip over 325lb rocks with a single paw.
Population : Unrelated to this, but fun fact – They are estimated to be under 1300 in population and dwindling.
Mating Season : Summer. Aka watch out for extremely hormonal Matthew around then.
Hibernation : Yes, they like most other bears go through hibernation. This begins in the coldest portion of winter and will last until around spring or even early summer. What this means for my character – Matthew will instinctively try to eat more to “prep” for his hibernation. During winter he will be lethargic and nigh-on narcoleptic when it’s cold. If he’s kept warm he can trick the hibernation instinct, at least. Mention he’s put on weight from hibernation-prep, though, and you’ll get a puck in the face.
Reason for choosing this animal : Kermode Bears are also called "Spirit Bears" because of their colour. Some people used to call them "the Ghost Bear". First off, by his colour alone, it is suggested that Kumajiro is actually a Kermode Bear, not a Polar Bear. I wanted to tie Matthew to Kuma in an obvious way, buuuut. "Ghost Bear"? Invisible Matthew? Just too easy.

Further Details
- Unlike their other counterparts, Kermode Bears do NOT like to attack humans.
- In fact, your typical Kermode Bear has no opinion on humans. They neither fear them, nor trust them. They see them as an equal and exist alongside of them, if they must.
- Kermode’s are as territorial as their fellow bears, but usually only during mating season. Otherwise they don’t appear to mind others being too close to them.
- Can climb trees just as good as any cat – However, the Kermode DOES weigh a lot, so it had better be a sturdy tree.
- Kermode Bears, like other bears, can also walk upright on its hind legs for a short distance. Interestingly enough, they step as most humans do with the heel first.
- The bulk of an adult Kermode causes them to use twice the energy to walk than other mammals.
- Average walking speed? 3.4 miles per hour. Most humans walk MUCH faster than that.
- Most active during the first third of a day – Is least active during the final third. In between? Pretty typical. Naps are thoroughly enjoyed.

Body Language and Noise Basics
- Standing : This is not an aggressive behavior. Truth be told, Kermode’s merely do this to get a better look around.
- Stationary Orientation : When threatened, the Kermode may at first turn and face broadside – What he’s trying to do is intimidate through size. If he turns to face and lowers his head closer to the ground while squaring shoulders? This is NOT a submissive gesture – Mattie’s getting ready to charge you.
- Charging : 9 times out of ten, a charge is NOT going to go all of the way. The bear will usually stop short, having “made a feint”. The only times the charge is much more likely to be the real deal is if Matthew has been exhibiting signs of stress and tension before hand (covered below).
- Sleeping : If sleeping by a food source, DO NOT STARTLE. Death has been known to occur.
- Huffs : If tense, may forcibly exhale a series of several sharp, rasping huffs. However, sometimes the huffs are used as a small source of communication and nothing more. It all has to do with body postures.
- Woofing : A startled bear may emit a single sharp exhale called a woof which lacks the harsh quality of a huff.
- Popping Sounds and Jaw Pops: All used as communication. The intensity and speed indicate stress levels. The louder, more quickly they come, the more panicked the bear is.
- Growling : A clear indication of intolerance and possible aggression. It may also snarl and roar. There is, however, a playful roar noise – It’s soft and short, and accompanied with rising onto hind legs slightly and falling back forward in a “bounce”.
- Yawn : Indicates tension, not that the animal is sleepy.
- Salivation : Comes in the form of white foam around the mouth. Only VERY distressed bears do this – If you see this, back the HELL away.
