. . .or things the mod didn't explain well enough because she thought everyone would read her mind.
In this thread, a moderator will post and answer all of the questions that you may have due to a lack of explanation, or a desire for clarification, etc. Please, don't feel afraid to ask us ANYTHING, even if it seems silly at the time! A fully answered question is better than being clueless, right?
Q . What determines the change?
A character may change by coming into physical touch with another -- This means skin to skin, or it may also occur if the characrer is wearing thin clothing. They need not have romantic feelings for the other character to end up changing.
Q. How do you decide whether it is half or whole change?
It depends on the character and the situation!
A character with better control over their ability will probably only go to half unless taken off-guard (someone grabbing them from behind, for instance). One with less control will more likely go entirely until they have been around for awhile or get a partner they REALLY trust. In that case, they may be able to control themselves entirely or be somewhere in-between~
Q. How do you determine the level of control a character has?
Here's a handy guide to that!
The older the character, the better they can control it. :: They've lived with it for quite awhile, right? So by now they've figured out some tricks. Younger characters will have a significantly harder time.
The larger the animal, the more difficult it is to control. :: If you're a mouse, it's going to be easier than if you're an elephant, right? Keep that in mind as well.
Q. Could a poke transform the character?
No, probably not -- Not unless they are VERY skiddish and can't control themselves at ALL. Somone who just found out about their ability might be this bad. Otherwise very -short- bursts of touch isn't going to do it. Poking, pinching... Things over in less than a second, naw.
Although, it might be funny for someone to slap another character and the slapped-one POOF into an animal...
Q. Can they talk in their animal form?
Yes, if it is an animal that could possibly have the capability. For instance, a fish wouldn't be able to communicate, mostly because it requires water to exist. However, a land mammal with vocal chords of some sort could.
There is a stipulation, however -- A character with little experience with their other form will have limited speech abilities. Their words may be broken, like, "I going" instead of "I am going". Or "I . . to . . you . ." with nothing filling in those blanks because they have difficulty telling WHEN they are speaking human tongue or animal.
Half-Form is obviously a totally different ball park.
Q. When they transform, their clothes are left behind in a pile, right?
Correct! An exception is made for large-breed characters (ie; anything larger than the character would be). Those clothes are just ruined. Some poor characters go through clothes like CANDY, I tell you.
So when they change back to human, they're naked?
Aren't their lives exceptionally awkward? We're continuing to see why it's important to get this under control, ja? Yes, when they change back, they will be sans any clothing, unless someone has dressed them -- Like if they decided to be a jerk and shove a sweater on the animal or something. For the article to be of any use it would have to be the same size the human would wear.
How long will they remain in animal form after changing?
If the change was involuntary, the transformation may only last somewhere between a few minutes to half an hour. It is uncommon for it to last too long. All one can do during that is grin and bear it best they can, and hope they did it in a safe place.
If the change was voluntary, however, it will last until the user wills it to stop. Even then, unless they have really good control, it will probably take awhile to wear off once they STOP wanting to use it. Fickle ability, that.
Q. When someone transforms, would any of their scarring from their human form show?
YES. If a character sustained a major scar, there would be an absence, or sparse covering, of fur in that particular spot! The scarring would still show, in the exact place it would on their human form. Any major birth markings (moles, oddly formed limbs, etc) would show up as well.
If a character has a major bruising, if it -can- be visible on the animal (some are just too covered in fur and it PROBABLY wouldn't be visible unless it was in a patch missing fur) then it IS there. c:
Q. If the character, as a nation, had a scar from a battle, natural disaster, etc, would it still appear on this characterization of them?
If the particular battle/disaster/etc had a LARGE impact on who the character formed into (for instance -- The matching burns that fan's theorize the twins have from the War of 1812 : It FOREVER changed how they acted to one another), then YES the scar will still be on them in this verse.
The reason behind -how- they got the scar will change, of course, but it's fun to try to tie it in somehow! For instance, America and Canada may still have matching burns. However, they may have gotten them from wrestling in front of the fire place. One got burned to begin with, and the other burnt their sibling back in retribution. This thusly alludes to the War of 1812 WITHOUT being the War. c:
If that's too much, though, don't worry about subtle ties.
Q. Can a human change into an animal by touching an already-transformed character?
If the character is in-between human and animal (ie; ears, tail, etc), then YES it is still possible to shift. However, if they are full-animal, it's just like touching any other fluffy creature -- No reaction. c:
Q. Is it painful?
Generally? No. It's such an instant reaction that there may be after-pain effects (such as the sensation humans have when they're young and growing -- Growing pains), but otherwise no.
Q. Are their senses when human heightened?
As they grow older, theoretically the individual would become more accepting of their condition as they learn to control it. As they accept and learn to control their abilities, yes they will have certain senses heightened.
Q. Do they follow their animal's sleeping habits?
The individual will, naturally, be more inclined to function at those times better. Because classes take place during the day, those who function best at night will need to figure out how to work around that.Alfred will probably just bother Arthur and keep him awake.
4. Do they follow the same diet needs as their animals? EG, could someone with a herbivore for an animal eat meat?
The individual person would, again, be more inclined to eat what their animal wants. However, a vegan can still force themselves to NOT eat meat as a human. They will have no control over this as an animal until they gain total control over their abilities and the animal persona.
Q. What does it look like when they change?
Puff of smoke, generally. Players have the option, however, of when the character changes BACK instead of a "puff of smoke" they may have a puff of something different -- ie; if they're a bird, reappearing in a puff of feathers.
Q. If two people come into contact with one another who's animals are naturally prone to violence (ie; a rabbit and a fox, cat and dog, etc), would they themselves have issues?
If in animal form, there is a guaranteed yes there. That's sort of a given though, I guess. Again, your typical answer of "if they can control it well enough" is subject here, as someone who has 100% bonded and learned to control their ability won't act on instinct, unlike someone who is learning.
In their human form, they may feel skittish, even unexplainably angry at the other person, depending. Fights may occur and then they stop and wonder, "Wtf. Why did I DO that?"
